Here goes;
There've been some questions about what clothing is allowed and not allowed at our matches, mainly whether we allow shorts and short sleeve shirts during the summer months. I posted an answer to that question back in early June when the question was asked but some may have missed my response so I'll copy it here;
Question:
Went to North Alabama Regulators this weekend. They were letting folks shoot in shorts. June, July and August, think we can shoot in shorts? Be a lot cooler!
Answer:
Just wear thin, light colored clothes.
Take off your hat every now and then if you wear one. They're not required you know. They just look good.

Here is what is in the SASS Handbook:
"Cowboy Action Shooting™ is a combination of historical reenactment and Saturday morning
at the matinee. Participants may choose the style of costume they wish to wear, but all
clothing must be typical of the late 19th century, a B-Western movie, or Western television
series.
SASS puts a great deal of emphasis on costuming because it adds so much to the uniqueness
of the game and helps to create a festive, informal atmosphere that supports the friendly,
fraternal feeling we encourage in our competitors."
I polled the officers past and present and the overwhelming majority (all but one) said they felt everyone should dress at least moderately "Cowboy" , No shorts.
We are not intense historical reenactors or "clothes nazi's" but we feel that not dressing at least moderately "Cowboy" takes away some of the uniqueness of our sport.

Fantastic reply and explanation!
We don't want anyone to drop out from heat stroke but we are shooting cowboy!!!-!!
Pants , boots, cowboy hat if you wear one, and tasteful t shirt/ short sleeved shirt.
Just my 2 cents.
LIke DBs reply.
You too Hurricaine, however, there is NO tasteful T-shirt in cowboy action shooting.
I hope this settles this question for good.
If Ole Tom can dress hot anyone can.
I always dress cowboy.
Hope to see you at both shoots in August Trail bones!
I'm in for following the dress code. I may bring a generator and fans for the August match.
Speaking as a complete newbie, the costume aspect is a huge draw for new folks. It's unique, historical and something of a spectacle for the unacquainted. Love it!
