All,
I've found yet another bug in Practiscore software that the developer is telling me would take "a lot of time" to properly fix, because it will require rewiring how Practiscore handles stage DNF. It mostly impacts calculating scores for our annual awards. In short, when a shooter has a DNF on a stage for a given match, PS will save this as a time of 0 for that stage. For the individual match results, PS will list the shooter at the bottom of the list with an overall score of "-", meaning the shooter has no score for that match because a DNF means an incomplete match. HOWEVER, when you create a match series report for our annual awards score calculations, PS will incorrectly use a value of ZERO (0) for that stage, meaning the shooter will have a REALLY good score for that match (because they're only being scored for 4 out of 5 stages for that match)! This miscalculation will skew the shooter's place for annual awards.
Due to the complexity of the issue, PS doesn't plan on fixing this any time soon. What I'm doing for this year's annual awards is manually replacing all "DNF" scores with a stage time of 150 seconds. From my understanding of SASS rules, a stage DNF is scored the same as a stage DQ, so this should be acceptable. PS developer agreed this is the best approach for now.
THIS ALSO MEANS FROM NOW ON, IF A SHOOTER HAS A STAGE DNF, PLEASE DONT SCORE "DNF" -- INSTEAD, SCORE THE SHOOTER WITH 150 SECONDS!!
Please let me know if there are any questions/concerns.
Picket,
You might reach out to Branchwater Jack, he is dealing with Practiscore on essentially the same issue. Stage DQ's were not figuring correctly. The way I understand it is the SDQ should be figured by the number of targets times 5 seconds plus 30 seconds. In other words the time would be different for a 10,10,4 than a 10,10,6. Practiscore has a way to load the number of targets per stage and in theory this should prompt the SDQ to figure correctly but it has been defaulting to 150 seconds. Which would be fine if all stages were 10,10,4. But if you have a stage with any variation in the round count, it will not figure correctly.
Barkeep, can you text me his preferred method of contact (email, phone, text)?
For the issue you described, you can set the "Stage DQ Value" for each stage when you create the stage. For example, in the match menu, select: Build Stages -> Stage 1 -> Stage DQ Value. It defaults to 150 for all stages, but you can override it in that setting. Honestly, we're only talking about a difference of 10 seconds (160 seconds on a 10-10-6 vs 150 seconds on a 10-10-4), so in the end, I don't know if it's really worth it?
I will pass along the information. Thanks!
