Dillion 650 blow up!

Loaded about400 bullets last night, started on the next hundred, half way through had a pretty good explosion, blew my hat off!
After checking myself for holes and calming Slow Jen down, called it a night
Tore it apart today had locked up and bulged primer feeder tube.
Called Dillion the ate sending entire primer assembly!
Was told not to use federal primers in a 650.
Anyone have a similar situation?

Yep! I had some military .38 brass. The old primers came out okay, but the new ones didn't want to go in (they are tightly crimped on military brass). I tried to force the primers in. A set off a couple of primers trying. I bought a swager and did all primer pockets in the military brass. I set them aside in box in the reloading room and I've looked at them for the last 14 years. I've never been brave enough to try them again even though they're supposedly fixed now.

I still only use Federals, but I seat them gently. If they're they fight me going in, I stop and discard that round.

Did you have an adult beverage nearby when you were loading?

. I have heard of this happening when a primer was being forced into the case. On my 550, if something doesn't feel right, I stop and find out the problem before proceeding. Do not get in a hurry when reloading!

Had a friend who had a similar experience with the primer tube ignition. Glad you had no injuries. Hope Jen wasn't too traumatized.

Too Tall the adult beverage came after the explosion,I got the 650 so I could load faster!
You are right about something not right,stop and check it out good advice and I'll take it.
Keystone Slow Jen was not traumatized just startled she knows it's hard to find a good gunboy/ cart b...h!

Called dillion thursday.
Got entire primer assembly Saturday in mail box.
Wish more things were like that!

Loaded first rounds since putting loader back together.
Talked to several people who have not posted but have had similar events as mine.
I wore saftey glasses and intend to get a flip down shield after what I have seen and heard!

Slowest 200 ends I ever loaded today!

Just curious but did you try to force something before the explosion? Also, just wondering what other people have experienced before the big event! This has never happened to me and I don't want it to happen to me so I would like to know what event occured before the primers exploded.

Forcing the primer to seat seems to be common denominator in all the stories I have heard.
Dillion says not to use federal 100s in 650, apparently the go of easier,duhhhh!
Cant day for others but I was getting primers crooked acasionaly.
Machine seemed timed correctly in all other operations.
Put in new primer assembly, no crooked primers so far!
Primer caroseul worn?

Being a progressive press, I guess there is a tendency to go fast with a 650. Not sure if there is a separate operation to seat primers but I wouldn't think so. With the 550, you can feel the primer being seated and can stop if the primer refuses to seat.

Too Tall,

You can feel the 650 as it seats on the down stroke.

I load at around 500 .38's an hour. Not really fast, but I can see Charly maybe getting a little quick with it.

I've had a few crumple sideways, and certain pieces of brass just dont like Federal primers. If I feel resistance I pull the brass and pitch it it.
