Veterans Day

The day was originally Armistice Day marking the end of fighting in WW1.  French Supreme Commander Marshal Foch thought it would be cool to end the war on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11:00 am. 

The war could have ended hours sooner (If I remember correctly, the agreement had actually been signed a little before 6:00 am) and many men died needlessly because some officers insisted that their men fight right up until the exact hour.
