What is the exact rule on a close shot gun, cocked pistol or cocked rifle?
Once closed or cocked one foot may not move, or you can shuffle,

Double Barrel

You can shuffle to make yourself more stable, but you can't move to improve your shooting position.

Rules like that( open to interpretation) will have us all keeping a lawyer on retainer.
Does being more stable improve you're shooting position?

Keystone

Howdy,

The basketball rule was once strictly enforced until the ROC clarified that shuffling to a more stable stance without changing shooting location would be permitted. Generally it's quite obvious if a shooter is trying to improve their view of target after the firearm is loaded & cocked ready to fire. The shuffling seems to happen more with shotgun, although some newer shooters seem to shuffle with every gun.

So, how do you coach a shooter who's taken a stance in a bad shooting position with a cocked & loaded firearm in hand(s)?

Double Barrel

Keystone his the nail on the head. It is pretty easy to tell when someone is "shuffling " to get stabilized or "moving " to get a better position. If you know the difference between an inch and a foot it should be obvious.
